Dr. Le's Pearls

Dang, last night on service it would have been great to have remembered one of Dr. Le's pearls. Remember him telling us that if you have to do a speculum exam on a reallllly large woman, that you can put a condom over a big speculum to hold the walls of the vagina from caving in? Yeah, well that lecture all came screaming back to me when the walls were overwhelming me...Take it from one who now knows-- just go ahead and put the condom on the spec...doesn't matter how big the spec is, if the walls are going to cave, they are going to cave with a big spec or a small one...
On a brighter side-- I caught my first baby as a doc!! Adorable nearly 8 lber. Dr. Le's words- The 3 rules- again came screaming back at me "DONT DROP THE BABY!" I didn't but this guy was slippery, and had no desire to hand out at the perineum for a breather. He wanted OUT! Pretty cool. I am still on a high.
